Clay Ballard: All right guys, I’ve got an awesome little drill for you to increase your Power Turn, start hitting the ball farther right away.
You can do this from your cart, it’s great if you’re going up on a hole, maybe there’s a little bit of a wait. Stretch out a little bit.
Your next tee shot you might hit it 10 or 15 yards farther. Power Turn really helps you get some more club head speed.
Very easy to do. You’re going to pick up a lot of range of motion in a quick amount of time here. What I’m going to do first, I’m going to sit in the cart, I’m going to put my knees together so that I won’t cheat.
I’m going to put a little pressure in between my knees. If I have something like a block or a towel, I could put it in between there. Head cover, something like that. Then I’m going to put a club across my shoulders.
Now I’m going to stand really nice and tall. My chest is going to be high, and my head is going to be high, so my spine is straight up and down. That way I have good posture and I can get a lot of rotation.
From there, what I’m going to do is I’m going to go ahead and take a deep breath and as I exhale, I’m going to turn as far as I can.
Now when I take my next breath, I’m going to go ahead and side bend, breathe in, you should feel it all up and down your left side here. Take a deep breath in.
That’s stretching out all the muscles in your core. So I’m going to breathe out. I’m going to come back up, deep breath in, and as I breathe out, I’m going to see if I can turn a little bit more.
You’d be surprised how quickly you can pick this up. So again, now that I’m here, I’m going to side bend again, deep breath, I really feel it all down my left side.
Exhale, try to tilt as far as you can that way. Keep your knees together, I don’t want to do this and cheat. So I’m going to take my breath in, out, come back up. As I breathe out, I’m going to turn a little bit more.
You can see I start out here, and I’m going to there. You’re going to pick up probably 10 or 15 degrees of rotation just doing that drill really quickly.
That’s one of the best ones. Just make sure we stay nice and tall, deep breaths in and out. Keep your knees together, it’s easier if you get a couple head covers, something like that, and just rotate a little farther every way.
If I’m going to my left, that would be my follow through, and I’m going to tilt my left shoulder down when I go that way.
If I’m going to my right like my backswing, I’m going to tilt my right shoulder down to get this left side. So do at least two reps on each side if you only have a couple minutes between shots.
If you get a little bit more time, do up to five reps. Nice and slow, deep breaths in and out, and I’m telling you. You guys, you’ll be amazed how much rotation you pick up in just a few minutes.
The best part, you can do it right from your cart.
