Video Transcription:
Hi guys. I’m Dr. Thad Leffingwell, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as the sports psychology instructor with Top Speed Golf.
In this video, I want to introduce myself to you and invite you to watch my videos to come. I am currently a professor and head of the Department of Psychology at Oklahoma State University.
I’ve played golf most of my life, and was fortunate to play golf in college. I became interested in the psychology aspects of competitive sports performance during college, and went on to earn a master’s degree in sports psychology from the University of Arizona, and a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and sports psychology from the University of Washington.
I’ve had nearly 25 years of experience consulting with Division I athletes from many spots, but especially golf.
As you probably know, golf is a challenging game, mentally. We have to make many decisions, perform under constantly changing conditions, and deal with sometimes cruel misfortune.
We have to maintain focus in an environment filled with distractions. But perhaps the most challenging thing is that we have lots of time to think.
In a four-hour round of golf, a golfer might actually perform the physical acts of executing golf shots for a total of only a handful of minutes.
The rest of the time leaves endless opportunities for distraction, self-doubt, or anxiety and tension to run rampant in our games.
I will be preparing videos to give you skills and strategies to cope with the mental challenge of golf. My goal is to help you play your best, and to enjoy this great game even more.
By the way, I’m not only contributor to Top Speed Golf, but I am a student. After 30 years of living with my self-taught swing and all of its flaws, I decided to try and relearn the swing from the ground up.
I was first drawn to the Top Speed Golf System and Clay’s excellent instruction, as a result of searching for improvements in my own game.
I was so impressed with Clay’s instructional style and the Top Speed Golf System that I asked for an opportunity to contribute some of my own expertise.
We are anxious to hear your feedback about these new videos. Please let us know how you like them, and if you have topics that you would like to see addressed in future videos.
Play well, and have fun.
