Today, you’ll discover “This Crazy Simple Feel To Hit Irons Consistently | Drag The Bag!”
What is stability through impact and why do you want it? Well, I can tell you, you want it because it’s going to make sure that your face is controlled and that we are going to hit consistent, powerful golf shots. We can hit a powerful golf shot without a stable face, but it will not be consistent. So stability simply means that when the club head’s going through impact, there’s not a lot of flash going on, meaning there’s not a lot of action in the shaft.
So what we want to have going through impact, as you’re going to see all the touring pros do, they’re going to have forward shaft lean through impact and they’re going to gradually release it some release a little bit later, some a little bit earlier. But every single touring pro is stable through an impact. So what I have for you is a very, very awesome drill that’s going to have you sensing that stability through impact.
So it’s a very nice field drill to start allowing you to feel what it’s supposed to feel like going through impact. Now, this might be a lot different than what you’re used to, but it is going to be an extreme light bulb moment going off. So what we’re going to do is we’re going to use an impact bag if you don’t have an impact bag, I’ll show you here in a minute how you can do it without one.
But this is going to be a really, really nice visual. So stability through impact if I am pulling. So we all know the if we’re pulling an object. So let’s go and describe this real quick. If I’m pulling an object, it’s going to track our center. If I’m pushing an object, it could go any way in the world.
So essentially, if I’m pushing a cart or pushing a wagon, it can go off track but if I’m pulling the wagon, it’s always going to be stable going are stable following the force. So we’ll get a lot more detailed into that if we want it to but all we need to know is that if you’re pulling the wagon, it’s always going to follow you.
And that’s essentially what we want to do with the end of the club and the club face. So by using the bag here, we’re going to start developing a sensation of pulling through impact. So what I’m going to have you do is if you have an impact bag, let’s go ahead and get set up. We’re going to send this up just off the back of our right foot.
So if you put a straight line through the bag, it’s going to go just off the outside edge of your back foot and you’re going to go ahead and you’re going to come down into the bag. And we’re going to drag the bag through impact. So what you’re going to see is you’re going to feel some pressure.
The shaft is actually going to bow a little bit going through impact. And we’re going to drag the bag so we don’t need to throw the bag or anything like that. But what we’re getting is a sensation of going through impact. So I’m going to set this up again right off the back of my foot, and we’re going to drag the bag.
So drag the bag all the way past. So I like to go from foot to foot. So it’s going to go from my back foot to my front foot. So essentially, we want to try to drag the back of the bag from the back of the foot to the front of the foot. And that’s going to give us a sensation.
Now, once you have that sensation, I want you to go ahead and go to the top of the swing. I want you to come down into that impact area and drag the bag again. So we’ll do that a couple more times going up to the top. We’re going to make sure we come down into the bag and we’re going to drag the bag through impact once you get a good feel for that.
You’re going to see that there’s going to be a little bit of leftover proprioception in your hands because they’re going to be they’re going to be sensing the drag through impact. So if you’ve ever held like a baseball bat or something up against the pole and push against it real hard, you kind of get that kind of slingshot feeling through impact.
So it’s really good to hit some balls right after doing this drill. So what we’re going to do now is I’m going to use that same sensation of pulling or dragging the bag through impact to get some stability in my club head.
So there we go. Not too bad, actually. A 210 total distance, you know, good direction ball drew a little bit, but I actually didn’t hit it that great but the reason why I still hit a pretty good shot there is because my clubface was stable through impact. And that’s the beauty of being stable through impact is we don’t have to hit it perfect every time.
But we do have to have that stability so that we can play really consistent golf and still get great shots just like that. Now, the key here is that clubface has to be square going through impact. If we don’t if we don’t square up the club face properly, we will not be able to feel or sense that sensation of being stable.
Because if we come into the club into the ball and the club face’s open, if we try to actually get that stability, we’d either shank it or hit it straight. Right? So most players are going to flip and lose the club. So squaring up that face properly is imperative. So what I’m going to do, if you’re already a member, is I’m going to send you over to the move section.
I’m going to have you check out the tennis racket drill so if you click on the instruction tab at the top of the screen and you click on the golf system, click on the TSG golf system, click on the move and go to the tennis racket drill, it’s going to show you exactly how to square up the club face so that you can sense that stability through impact and start hitting great shots just like this.

Now I know what you’re probably thinking. You’re thinking, Michael. You’re guaranteeing my hips are going to be open at impact. But every single time I try this, they are dead square. I can demonstrate it I can get my hips open in a demonstration, but when I go to swing, my hips stall out, maybe I stand up a little bit.
They say dead square and the hips don’t fully rotate until well after impact. You’re telling me you’ve tried a million things? Well, I am literally guaranteeing if you execute three very simple checkpoints, your hips will be open at impact guaranteed. So what those checkpoints are we’re going to dove right into this is we have two checkpoints with our legs, one checkpoint with our hands with the first one’s going to be with the lead leg.
The first the lead leg needs to be straightened. Now, the second checkpoint, let me grab my stick here we’re going to mark the middle of our stance, if you. If you’re doing this at home, use an alignment sticker, use a club, anything to mark the very middle of your stance. We’re going to have the lead leg straighten, which is going to push the hip open and back.
And we’re going to make sure that the right knee, our back knee is going to be past the middle of our stance, those two checkpoints where they are going to make sure our hips are going to be wide, wide open so the lead leg straighten the right knee is past the middle of our stance. Now, the key to put this all together to get this at impact is both of these need to happen before our hands get below our belt line.
So what we’re going to do is we’re going to put a wall or horizontal wall right here on our belt, and we’re going to make sure that our hands are above this wall. By the time we’ve executed the first two checkpoints, lead leg straight, right knee in front of the in front of the midline. So this is to cut to the chase and getting these hips to finally open up and clear through impact.
And if we execute these three checkpoints, we will guarantee them being open through impact Now, there we go. Now, I know that shots and it absolutely killed or anything, but that’s not the point. We are trying to cut to the chase on getting these hips open through impact. So again, if I straighten this lead leg and my knee passes that midline before my hands get there, I’m going to guarantee that now.
I’m going to have the ability to get forward shaft lean and release it out in front, doesn’t guarantee it. But I’m going to have the ability to get into all those positions. You see the touring pros get into now, you’re probably thinking, you know, I’ve tried to do all this before. There’s a lot to it. There is. But it’s a lot easier if you have some direct help.
