Why You Need This: Today, you'll discover "Shallow Your Downswing Like A Pro | Student Transformation"
In today's lesson...
Watch as Top Speed Golf Instructor, Michael Derr shows how he focused on one key move...
...for his student to transform to a much shallower swing plane and proper weight shift.
If you struggle with either of these moves, today's lesson is sure to help you out!
Notice how much smoother this student's swing became by honing in on this one simple aspect of his swing.

Two major factors to a great swing are getting first and foremost at the top of the swing, getting this club to shallow out and shifting your weight correctly so that you can get everything to finish nice and solid on top of the lead foot. Now I see this faked a lot, um, amongst the golfers all over the place.
They'll, they'll swing and then just kind of get to what we call a fake finish. What we don't want to have happen is that we want that finish to be more of a report card. Well, today I have a great before and after of one of my online. That just purely demonstrates how you can take one simple key and really be able to take advantage of getting both of these with that one simple key.
So if we go ahead and take a look at the swing right here, we have the before swing over here on the right. And then we have the after swinging over here on the left, and this is just an unbelievably beautiful swing shape change. And we're gonna show you this both from the face on and the down the line move.
So if we go ahead and look at the before swing over here on the right, we're gonna see that if we look at the weight shift, which we can kind of look more at the center of the body here, and we can clearly see that when we go into the finishing position that the weight is going to finish in the center of the feet.
Now if we look at the after swinging, We get a beautiful weight shift and just go ahead and notice the wonderful work our student has done getting the hands ahead of the ball at impact. But he wouldn't be able to get these hands ahead of the ball at impact if he wasn't doing this move correctly. So we are coming into the ball and we are going to finish nicely on top of the lead foot.
So everything's nice and stacked on top of the front foot. Now the real magic happens here when we look at the plane line. So if we look at the before video over here on the right, we're gonna see when we go up to the top of the swing, what we want to have. Is we want this club head to shallow out under the plane.
Just so we know, this is gonna be above the plane. This is below the plane. We want that club to shallow out underneath the plane from the top of the swing. So if we look at the top of the swing, we want that club head to immediately get under this plane line and enter into the ball from under the plane line.
This is the only way we can hit the ball solid on its target line. But if you go ahead and see here in the before swing, we have this move at the top of the swing. where that clubhead immediately comes over the plane so we can see the club's coming over the top of the plane. So this particular student was having a lot of trouble off the tee box controlling it, and as such, he was having to cut across the ball and the balls that he did hit solid, he would end up pulling.
So if we look over here at the after swinging, we're gonna see a massive, massive difference. And we're gonna go over the swing key here in just one second, but we can clearly see a very easy. Look at the massive difference underneath the plane. And then of course, as we saw from the face, face on view, we have the hands leading the club head through impact.
And because of this move, he's able to do that. And now we're getting much more consistent strikes on the ball and he now has the ability to shift everything on top of the lead foot. So just a real quick recap on that. We can see from the face on view that the student was able to get through the ball with the hands.
Finish on top of the lead foot and then from the down the line view, easily shallow this out. So what is this key move? Well, for this particular student, this is why it's so important sometimes to make sure you analyze. Your own sensations when you're practicing, um, because different players feel different things.
Now, if you notice from the before video, uh, the student's back hip, and this is gonna be the swing key, the back hip is a big one for a lot of players was firing too quickly from the top of the swing. So what you're gonna want to do is if you have a similar swing shape or if you're struggling with shallowing, this club, Is when you get up to the top of the swing, you wanna be more pa, a little bit more patient with this hip.
You hear a lot in the golf swing to fire the hips from the top of the swing. That's the sequence. And that is true. We do wanna have the hips to fire first, but if we fire them too quickly, it's almost impossible to get underneath that plane. So the feeling that the student had when he got up to the top was feeling like that, right?
Or the back hip stays back just a little bit longer. That gives him time to shallow out the club. And now that we have time to shallow out the club, he can easily finish on top of the lead foot. So if we take another quick look here at the before and after swing, if we look at this back hip and we, and we really focus in on it, we're gonna see that back hip immediately.
That pocket start going towards the ball immediately. So that's gonna want to throw those hands over there. But if we look at the after. , this is the literal pro level patience in that hip. It's just a little tiny move here. Now to the student, this felt like a lot longer. He even felt like this was staying back for a very long period of time.
But as you can see, it's just a little bit more patient. Now, that pocket's gonna get about to where this pocket is here and the hands are already way further down. But that has given the club time, allowed it to have time to get underneath that plane line and come into the ball with just a massive, massive.
So if you're gonna practice this at home, what I'd highly recommend is when you're taking your setup, go ahead and going up to the top of the swing and pausing. And what I want you to do is I want you to feel that crease in the, in the back, hip right here. And I want you to go ahead and allow that club to shallow and allow your belt buckle to move towards the target ever so slightly.
So what we're gonna be doing is feeling that initial move at the top of the swing. When we get up to the top of the swing, we're going to keep the the back. Extended, or no, sorry, we're gonna keep the back hip flexed right here as we're moving forward. So we're gonna allow that club to shallow as the belt buckle moves forward.
So this is the feel. We get up to the top belt buckle or the hip stays back as we shallow the belt. Buckle's gonna go forward with a closed back hip, and this is just gonna be that initial feeling of at the top of the swing. And that way when you start hitting some shots, you're gonna go up to the top.
You're gonna feel this initial move. Do a couple practice swings. Feel this initial move and then be real, real patient at first where you go up to the top and you make some nice easy swings while doing this. If you practice this, you're gonna get a much better result in terms of having the ability to allow this club to shallow out underneath the plane.
And of course, that added benefit of being able to get through the shot had the ability for the hands to lead and finish on top of the lead foot. Now, if you work on the things we went over in this lesson, I can guarantee you it's going to massively help out your game, the way you see the swing. But there's one really important detail here, and we have to understand that the student had a.
Huge advantage of being able to send me in videos and for me to be able to work with him directly. I was able to analyze, see what he needed to work on and we could cut right to the chase to to see specifically custom to him what he needed to work on. And obviously there were some prerequisites in place for him to get to this beautiful swing.
And those are the things we went over and we were able to work on them. Directly, which is the huge advantage. Now, if you're interested in having that same advantage, I highly recommend checking out my online review group. If you're seeing this video, that means I have spots available in my review group.
Now, this doesn't happen too often, and those spots tend to sell out really quickly. So if you're interested at all, I highly recommend clicking the button below this video that'll, that'll take you to a page to see if there are still spots available. If there are any spots available, there will be a place you can sign up for a waiting list, and that'll make sure that you'll be not.
The next time we open up spots. So if you're interested in possibly working with me, I highly recommend checking that out. I look forward to possibly working with you in the future. Good luck with your game, and we'll see you soon.
