Why You Need This: In this video, you'll learn how to launch your fairway woods nice and high.
TSG Instructor Robin Rosado joins me to demonstrate how he crushes his 3 woods.
There are 3 crucial keys for hitting these high shots that ride the wind...
#1: Ball up in Your Stance
Make sure the ball is up in your stance about 1 ball ahead of your normal ball position.
This will help you swing up, or at least level, into the ball.
The higher launch angle results in higher ball flight.
#2: Place More Weight on Your Right Side
Shift a little more weight on your back foot.
Also, it doesn't hurt to push your back foot out a little for a wider stance.
These moves will help you swing with a higher launch angle.
#3: Full Finish
After impact, continue your swing with a full finish.
Come all the way around.
If you were to draw a vertical line through your front ankle, most of your body would be behind that line.
Alternatively, if you want to hit a low shot, most of your body would be on, or stacked on, that line.

Hi guys, I’m Clay Ballard, joined here with Top Speed Golf instructor Robin Rosado, and we’re going to talk about how to hit those long, high-launching 3 woods off the tee, really get them up there. You can do the same thing in the fairway too, if you’re not on the tee box.
He smoked that one, 276 off the tee, nice high launching. The height of that shot was 124 feet maximum height.
Robin, when you’re trying to get these to launch a little bit higher, there’s a few things we work on. So go ahead and tee one up. The first thing you want to do is put the ball just a little bit up in your stance.
As you start to put that ball a little farther forward in your stance, about one ball farther forward, that’s going to help you to hit a little bit more up or at least level with the ground, and that’s going to help it to launch a little bit higher.
The next thing he wants to do, is get a little bit more weight on the right side, and probably drop this right foot back about an inch wider than it normally would be.
That’s going to help you set up farther behind the ball, again, so I can get behind it, launch it a little bit higher there too.
Then finally, I want you to finish, go ahead and do a practice swing, and then finish on your front foot and we’ll show them what kind of angle we’re looking for here.
So as he finishes, he wants to feel like he comes all the way around. If I was to draw a line from the lead ankle straight up, most of his body would be behind that line.
Show them, if I was going to hit one low, or the opposite of launching high, what would I kind of finish, I’d probably slide a little bit in front.
Now you can see as you were to finish, you might get a little bit farther in front, or more stacked, or over top of the golf all, what people will call it that time.
We want to stay a little farther back. Ball about an inch in front, little bit of wider stance, and then when we finish, we’re going to be behind that lead leg, balanced up on our lead leg.
Go ahead and try to give it a rip, we’ll focus on those three keys, and we’ll see how high and long he can hit this one.
Yeah, that was a great ball there. Big, high ball, smoked that one again. Let’s see what the FlightScope numbers give us.
So club head speed 107, that’s really taking a rip at it. 266.3 total distance, and a 133 maximum height. So that was definitely exactly what you want to do, especially when you get those down-wind holes, you just want to let one rip. So nice job, Robin.
Take those three tips and launch those fairway woods.
