I bet you've been trying to get lag by creating a sharp angle with the wrist and then maintaining that or holding that angle throughout the swing. What if I told you that won't work to get as much lag as you deserve? You actually need to do the opposite of that. I want you to have almost no wrist set in the backswing.
So what I'm trying to do here is I'm trying to get a big shoulder turn, a big arm swing, really get these hands back, and I want to feel like this club never sets almost like a John. Where at the top of your swing, the club is straight up and down toward the sky. Then in the downswing, we're gonna increase that.
So let's start with the backswing. I'm gonna feel like my wrist never set in the backswing. Like they, they go wide here. Very little angle on my wrist. This would be what's called, um, radial deviation. This would be honor deviation. I wanna feel like it's an honor deviation, and I wanna feel like if I had a laser shooting outta my golf club, that laser is pointing up to the sky at the top of my backswing.
Now, it's really not gonna happen that way. If you feel like your club is straight up and down, it's gonna end up being about like that. So feel like it is way up there, no rest set at all. This club, head to the sky. If you had a 10 foot ceiling, it'll be popping through that 10 foot ceiling. And then from there, here's the big.
As you start your downswing, now I'm gonna feel that sharpen up. I'm gonna feel like this club gets that angle in the downswing tour. Pros max out the most angle of lag they have when the left arm is parallel to the ground. I call it the max lag position. So when I'm making my downswing here, I want to feel like it's sharpening, sharpening, sharpening all the way to.
I want to feel like if I'm going this direction, I want to feel like that club would come down and hit me on the back of the shoulder. If I hit the top of the shoulder like this, I would be too steep. A lot of players make that mistake. I wanna feel like it hits the back of my shoulder like that. So no lag in the back swinging, and it's gonna hit me.
In the back of the shoulder, bounce off the shoulder there. Again, that's not gonna happen. These are just feelings. But if you have those two feelings, man, it's gonna be really easy to create a whole bunch of lag in the go swing. Watch how crazy this lag gets when I really try to do this exaggeration drill that I just went over with you.
There we go. That thing took off low, like a bullet cuz I had a ton of lag, a ton of shuffling, almost too much lag to be honest with you, for what I would wanna get in my swing. I almost overdid it to where I over lagged the club and I felt like there's not enough time to get through with it. If I had an iron that would be the same kind of swing, that would've tons and tons of Ford shuffling and it would come out low and super compressed.
So those two things are gonna help you to get a whole lot more lag and a lot more distance. I'll be honest with you, that's not gonna ingrain lag forever. If you want to have lag for two weeks from now, two months from now, two years from now, you have to work through a system to where it becomes completely natural.
Now, if you go out and you do those drills that we just talked about, again, you're gonna have a ton of lag. You're gonna see your club head speed boost up. You're gonna see the ball take off a little bit faster. But in two or three weeks, you may start to forget about it. You may start to get a little slower start to get that cast happening.
And you're gonna be right back to where you started. Not to mention, your buddy's gonna be telling you tips. You see stuff in magazines, you see it on tv. You got all this information coming at you from every which direction. If you wanna build a ton of lag for the rest of your life, you need to work through a system.
If you're a member of Top Speed Golf, go to the instruction tab, go to the top speed golf system, and then go to the lag section there. Now get started with the video that we did here today. You're gonna get a lot more lag right away. Then as you go through level. You're gonna start to ingrain that it's gonna get better and better, more and more.
Ball speed, more easy. Club at speed. You're gonna see the drives go longer as you go to level two and level three. That's when you're gonna ingrain it for a lifetime to where you step out of the car, you haven't swung the club one time, and the very first swing you make has a lot of lag, and you hit the ball really great with a ton of distance.
That's the feeling that I want to have you get. I don't want you just to hit it good today. I want you to hit it good for the rest of your life, and that's how you do it. So head on over to the lag section. I can't wait to see you there next.
