You hear us talk a lot about getting this club head underneath the plane from the top of the swing. This is one of the most vital components of consistency on the golf course. If we can get this club to shallow out, come from underneath the plane and enter into the ball. We can get very solid, consistent contact.
Well, I hit that really, really well. So if you are over the plane, then you are gonna be severely missing out on energy into the ball, meaning swinging easier and hitting the ball further. And then when you actually wanna ramp it up, hitting even further. Than that. So I have a great before and after of a student had this exact issue that I want you to pay special close attention to because if you can make a small tweak to your swing, it's gonna make it light years easier to get under the plane.
So if we take a look at my before student here, we are gonna draw the plane line. This is a very, very important line to understand. It's gonna be up through the hale of the club up through the base of the elbow. If we understand the plane, we're gonna understand that this side is gonna be above the plane and this side is gonna be below the plane.
So if you take a look at the student's swing, just the overall general swing shape, we're gonna see that he has a really good swing shape cuz he works on his swing a lot. But he, no matter what he did, he struggled getting under the plane and when we first started, he said he struggled for a couple years getting the club under the plane.
What? See is what I'm gonna show you is the tweak that we made that got him under the plane in less than a week. This is how powerful the correct information is at the right time. So if we go ahead and go up to the top of the swing, as you've probably heard us say before, what we want to see is this club head, get under the plane line immediately on the downswing and enter into the ball.
From underneath the plane line. That's how we can truly hit the ball solid on its target line. So we go ahead and take a look at the downswing here. We're gonna see that club head getting just above the plane line and then staying above the plane line ever so slightly. And remember, in this swing, he's trying very, very hard to get underneath that plane line.
You can see that it's a very easy swing. So even on easy swings, our student here was struggling big time with getting under the. So, as you guys know, I really like to show during videos as well, so this is a little bit of a midpoint after, and then we're gonna show the actual after part of the swing. So this is, um, about a week later when we were working on getting under the plane, and I'm gonna show you here in one sec exactly what we worked on that that severely aided in getting underneath the plane.
This is while he was working on his swing. You can say we're taking easy practice swings and all of a sudden we're seeing those hands start to shallow out towards that. And that clubhead getting underneath the plane line so we can see the clubhead is beautifully under the plane, entering into the ball from underneath the plane.
And as we can see here, this is just a nice, easy practice swing. And then if we go ahead and flash forward all the way recently, we're gonna see after a little bit of training, we have that same plane line and we're making full speed swings where that clubhead is going from the top of the swing, dropping beautifully under the plane.
We can see a huge, massive change in there, getting into a nice full finish. That is a massive change. So he can now swing full speed at these. And because he made this tweak, he's able to do this on a very consistent, So real quick, I wanna show you a very good example of why it's, it's, it's really good to always kind of see mechanics in extreme.
So we're gonna go over the tweak that I did with this student that allowed him to get under the plane. So if you are fighting to get under the plane, this is something I want you to pay really close attention to because this is where I see so many players struggle. Trying to get this club to shallow out.
So if we talk about our spine angle, and this is the, the tweak that we made. So right now you'll see in the before video that I'm gonna show you here in one sec, the spine was too straight up and down. He had only about two to three degrees of tilt away from the target. As you know, from the stable fluid spine system in the tops VGO system, we know we want a roughly six to eight degrees of tilt away from the target.
So getting a little bit more tilt, but we also want that spine angle very centered in the. . The reason we want to tilt, and I'm gonna explain this in extreme so we can see this very easily. If my spine is tilted way towards the target, this is going to highly promote an over top of the plane swing. So again, I'm tilting my spine towards the target this promotes and over the top swing.
Now and, and now listen very carefully. It means it promotes, it doesn't mean it's going to, I can manipulate this club and try to get it under the plane, but if I just allow myself to swing freely, it's going to heavily promote over. Of the plane swing. Now, on the other end of that, if I tilt, if I tilt my spine way, way far back away from the target, this is gonna heavily promote under the plane swing.
So I'm gonna do that again here from down the line, tilting straight as far back as I can. This is gonna heavily promote. And under the plane swing, so we can, we can very easily extrapolate that The more till I have, the easier it's gonna be to tilt from underneath the plane. So if we go ahead and take another look at our student here, we are gonna use our spine angle tool here that we use a lot in the online lessons program to see what we have going on with the spine angles.
So if we go ahead and draw a line. Down the spine angle and the four swing we're gonna see, we have about three degrees of tilt away from the target. That is 87 minus 90. 90 degrees would be straight up and down three degrees off of that, it's 87. So we know we have three degrees of tilt away from the target.
And this is like, as we can say, we, this is not a very, very big tweak, but it is a very, very. Important one. So if we go ahead and look at the after swinging, we're gonna see we have six degrees of tilt away from the target. So we're talking about a three degree tilt difference, which to the player. And we did, we did some very easy drill work to get this.
Um, we got this very quickly and we're able to get into working, uh, getting that club headed under the plane. , but because we made this difference in our spine angle, it, it made it that much easier to get that little bit extra to get that club head underneath the plane. So you can see here in the before swing we had a, we had did a good job at maintaining his spine angle, but we were just a little bit too straight up and down.
And then on the after swinging, we can see he did a really nice job. At maintaining that spine angle. Actually our spine angle tool got a little bit off there, but we can see if we match that spine angle that matches perfectly right there. So very good tool. And then if we go ahead and take a look at the face on view, we're gonna see another beautiful effect of having good spine angle mechanics.
And that is being able to have a. Other things in the swing, like beautiful forward chalene, and then beautifully being able to release that out into the straight line release as we talk about in the top speed golf system. So just a bit beautiful before and after with a very, very small tweak. So as we can see, this wasn't a big difference, but because we were a little bit more erect at address, it promoted just a little bit more over the top and we just got a little bit more angle.
And then from there we got to work on some things like making sure we feel like we are a little bit more patient in our downswing. And then from there, within one week we easily got that under the plane, and now we're taking full speed swings underneath the. So what I wanna do is show you a very simple drill that we did to make sure that that spine angle is, uh, is set at address.
So this is a drill from the stable Fluid spine course, but when I worked on it with him, we did this very specifically based on the midline. So, big, big deal to make sure you understand where your midline is. So if you split both of your feet equal distance in half, and you draw a line straight up out of the ground.
You wanna make sure that when you get your spine angle that you're doing it based on that. So we talk about the nose being behind the midline and the belt buckle being in front. The drill we did is something we call the sternum belt buckle drill, where you take a club or alignment rod and you attach it to your sternum and you attach it to your belt buckle.
You go ahead and get in your golf posture and what you're gonna do is hinge over from your. And then you're gonna tilt back and making sure you stay centered around your midline. So your belt buckle's gonna be going towards the target. Your nose is gonna be simultaneously moving away from the target until it touches your leg.
So what I had my student do was make sure that every time he set up, he set up that dress. Made sure he got his tilt. Then we make sure we hold our tilt and you wanna make sure you go down to the ball, hold your tilt, and then from there you're gonna maintain that spine angle. And now if you maintain that all the way up to the top of the swing, you'll have the ability to make sure you get underneath the plane.
In the short time we've been together, we've been able to make some, uh, big improvements. Came to him struggling for years. Uh, with my transition being steep, I can never get the club to shallow out with that, it caused all kinds of ball striking issues and being inconsistent. Um, and. within the very first, you know, uh, lesson that I sent review, uh, with Michael in this drill, I was able to, um, you know, build a better backswing.
I was able to transition, get the club in a spot where I could be on plane and under the plane and come through. Anytime I got off, I could just go back to the visualization of this drill. Um, and it just greatly, uh, improved, um, my downswing. Um, just being able to get the on plane, my ball striking got more consistent.
The ball flight. Yeah, the ball striking has improved. I'm excited about playing golf again. Uh, I'm excited to actually go out and practice. I know what to work on and if something gets off, I feel like. Um, I know exactly why and what to do to fix it. Now, if you work on the things we went over in this lesson, I can guarantee you it's going to massively help out your game, the way you see the swing.
But there's one really important detail here, and we have to understand that the student had a huge advantage of being able to send me in videos and for me to be able to work with him directly, I was able to analyze, see what he needed to work on, and we could cut right to the chase to to see specifically.
Accustomed to him what he needed to work on. And obviously there were some prerequisites in place for him to get to this beautiful swing. And those are the things we went over and we were able to work on them directly, which is the huge advantage. Now, if you're interested in having that same advantage, I highly recommend checking out my online review group.
If you're seeing this video, that means I have spots available in my review group. Now, this doesn't happen too often, and those spots tend to sell out really quickly. So if you're interested at all, I highly recommend clicking the button below this video. That'll, that'll take you to a page to see if there are still spots available.
If there aren't any spots available, there will be a place you can sign up for a waiting list and that'll make sure that you'll be notified the next time we open up spots. So if you're interested in possibly working with me, I highly recommend checking that out. I look forward to possibly working with you in the future.
Good luck with your game, and we'll see you soon.
