In today's lesson, I wanna share with you an amazing transformation for one of my online swing review students. When we started, he had a incredibly common problem that I we see far too often. So if you're struggling with the same things this student is, I highly recommend paying close attention to the drill work in this video, because I can guarantee you one thing, if you start doing this correctly, you won't ever wanna do it differently again.
So if we take a look at my students before swing here, we're gonna see a. Huge reverse pivot up at the top of the swing where the spine is tilted way towards the target. This is directly caused by the huge hips way. So if we take 'em back to address and we see the hips here, we're gonna see the hips really, really sway off the target.
And this issue makes it literally impossible for you to develop a consistent repeatable swing cuz you're me, you're essentially, you're removing your bottom point around when your back leg is swaying all over the place. Things can get way outta whack very quickly. And as you can see, this player, like most players, is struggling very much with getting any kind of forward schlafly at Impact.
And that's where we're gonna see the nice flip going through Impact where the club passes the hands much too quickly. So to eliminate the issue of the hips way causing the reverse pivot, we had to start eliminating the hips way. So what we did was we worked on stabilizing the back leg so that we could have the ability to maintain our spine angle.
Cuz when our hips sway, we move the bottom of our spine away from us. And when the bottom of the spine goes away from the target, the top of the spine tends to want to tilt. Towards the target. So if you're familiar with the Topi golf system in the Stable Fluid Spine course, you know that we want to have a spine angle away from the target, and we want to maintain that angle all the way to the top of the swing.
So a very good line that you can draw on your own swing is one right off the back leg to start checking to see if you have hip sway. So we're gonna do this right off of our student swing here, and we're gonna go all the way to the top of the swing and we're gonna very clearly see a huge hip sway where we have almost half of our leg through that line.
So once we got that back leg stable, as you can see here in the after swinging where that leg is not breaking that line, my student here had the ability to maintain his spine angle, and you can see a complete 180 difference where the spine angles tilted away from the target versus towards the target.
So essentially once we got this back leg stabilized, he was able to maintain his spine angle all the way to the top of the swing. And now that we had the sta the foundation under control, we were now able to work through impact training and as you can see here, and he now has the ability to come in, compress the ball.
So after we got everything stabilized, we got to work on impact training because it gave us the ability to do this consistently. And now we're sporting a nice 16 to 17 degrees of forward Kathleen and Impact. Where the tour average is 12, so that's about four better than Torah average going through impact, and we are releasing the club face with a beautiful, stable face with a perfect straight line release.
Also from the top speed golf system where the club's splitting the forearms and two out in front. Which almost automatically leads into a nice, beautiful finish. So if we take a quick look at her before and after swing side by side, we can clearly see huge mechanical differences all the way at the top of the swing as far as the spine angle, complete different spine angle going into impact with beautiful forward cha chalene versus flipping and releasing stably out in front.
And as a quick bonus, I wanted to show you a quick before and after of the driver swing implementing the same exact mechanics where we had an even bigger reverse pivot. And as you can see here, we're exaggerating the spine angle just a little bit. But man, it is just night and day different. When we look at the down swings coming down into impact, beautiful stable club face on the, on the right and the after swinging.
And then we can see the flip with the driver. On the before swing. So beautiful night and day difference. And remember when you're gonna look at your own swing, we want to draw that line right off the back of the leg and then down our spine angle, making sure that back leg is staying stable and we're maintaining our spine all the way to the top of the swing.
Now I want to go over the exact drill that me and my student went over to start stabilizing that back leg and keeping the spine angle so that you can start doing the same exact thing and start finding a much more consistent bottom point. But remember, not only does this help us with our consistency, no matter what our swings doing, it will also help us give us the ability to start training hands ahead of the ball at impact.
So to stabilize this back leg, we did a very simple drill where we used an external object. To maintain our same angle in our leg. So I love using a chair for this drill. You can use an alignment stick like I'm gonna demonstrate here. And what we're going to do is very simply, we're going to set up with a good spine angle, because remember, the spine angle's vitally important for making sure we have the ability to swing full speed and getting our hands ahead, ac uh, ahead of the ball with a consistent impact area as far as path is concerned.
And secondly, keeping that back leg stable will allow us to do that so much more easily. And almost kind of think about it like this. If this back leg stays stable, your bottom point is gonna stay stable. So very, very important no matter how your swing looks. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna start off, we're gonna put an alignment stick or a chair, something that we can set up right up against our back leg.
Now it's gonna be very important when we do this again, as I mentioned before, to set up with a spine angle at address. What we don't wanna do, one of the big mistakes I see is we'll set up with the spine angle at address, and then we'll shift our hips over. To get our leg close to this, what we wanna do is we can even take the stick outta the ground set up to our ball, get a good spine angle, and then go ahead and set the stick down in there.
Great way to make sure that that's in a, in a good spot. And we want this at a little bit of an angle because we want this almost touching our mid thigh height level, so not, not down here by our knee. And what we're gonna do is we're simply gonna do some backswing training only while, while maintaining our spine angle, we're gonna turn up to the top of our swing.
Nice, big, full turn without letting our leg. Bump this just like we saw my student do, where he was bumping and getting the the spine to tilt towards the target versus keeping this leg nice and stable all the way to the top. And this is very the simple guys. This is one of the reasons I love this drill so much, is because it's just training.
There's no trick to this. It's just very hardcore, nice fundamental mechanics that keep you in a very nice spot and keep that back leg stable. So what we do is we get some backswing training in making sure I have a spine angle and a stable back leg. Then we use that same feel. When we take the object out of the way, the chair, the stick, whatever we're using to make some nice, easy swings.
And what I want you to imagine here is I want you to put a fence around the outside of your leg and the inside of your leg and say, Hey, my leg can rotate in this fence as much as it wants. But we don't want it to change locations. We want it to stay right where it's at. Now, a little key extra note here is it can actually go inside that fence just a little bit, but we never want it to break that fence.
Okay? So we're gonna keep that leg nice and stable. We're gonna use that same feel from the drill. And we're gonna make some nice easy swings, really feeling that back leg stay nice and stable. Oh man, that was actually really straight. Incredible. Anyways, that was actually hit really well. Sometimes I, uh, I hit it great when I'm doing the lesson and, uh, it's always fun to watch that thing flash straight.
Now remember the two key checkpoints here. Making sure you have a good stable fluid spine like we talk about in the top speed golf system, making sure this back leg stays in that nice little fence all the way to the top of the swing. If we train those two, we will be set in a position that allows us to deliver a consistent bottom point and be able to tr train those beautiful compression moves.
We saw in the after video. I hope you enjoyed this video. Now I'm positive if you give these drills a try, I can guarantee you're gonna see a huge improvement in your game as well. But I have to admit, this player had a huge advantage. We all swing a little differently and once I was able to see his specific tendencies, I was able to come up with a custom program to help him improve as quickly as possible.
I would love to do the same for you, but unfortunately I can only take so many players at one time in my swing review program. I usually only open spots every four to six weeks, and in the past they almost always sell out on the first day. Today I am opening up just 10 new spots, so if you'd like to work together, be sure not to wait and make sure you click on the button below this video to sign up.
Now, if the spots are already sold out, make sure to join my waiting list so I can reach out to you first. The next time spots open. I look forward to seeing your swing.
