In this “Never Slice Again” series video, you’ll learn how to hit a draw with your stance.
First, you’ve got to understand that your alignment is such an important factor in your swing.
You see…
When you’re struggling with a slice, mistakes in your alignment compound your problems…
And make for extremely frustrating rounds.
Now here’s why…
If you tinker with your alignment, don’t be surprised if you need to tinker ever more later on to keep your ball in play.
Then all of a sudden you realize you’re aiming 60, 70 yards away from your target…
And your relaxing day on the course turns into a series of ballooning slices that even the most ridiculous circus clown would laugh at.

All right, so welcome back to the Eliminate Your Slice series, where we’re just going to get rid of your slice, fix that slice forever. I’ve got a great drill today that’s going to talk about alignment.
This is one of the things that really starts to snowball and go in the wrong direction when you’re struggling with a slice.
So here I have a ball set up, I have a stick about seven or eight feet in front of that ball, lined up directly with my target. I don’t know if you guys can see that, that blue flag, the white pole right in front.
That’s a dead straight shot. So if I’m going to hit this ball absolutely dead straight, no curvature on it whatsoever, I’d like to have my feet lined up basically parallel with this golf ball. My swing direction is going to come down, square up through contact, and then back up to the left.
So I’m going to be swinging nice and square and straight. I would actually hit the stick with my golf ball if I hit a dead straight shot.
That’s basically wat we’re all looking for. We don’t really want a big slice, we don’t want a big hook, but if you’re struggling with that slice, we’re going to have to feel a little bit of an exaggerated hook to get that straightened back out shot.
What I usually see when players are struggling with the slice, coming over the top like we talked about earlier in this series, the path is going right to left. The ball starts out a little bit left of the target, and then really fades back.
So we start to miss shots to the right. Well naturally, I mean if I miss four or five shots to the right, common sense would tell me well, if I start to line up more to the left, well now as I start to miss a little bit to the right, that’s going to end up to my target.
What ends up happening, is players will turn to these alignment sticks, and the direction that they’re going to swing the golf club is now going to be over to the left.
I start swinging more and more left, so the more left you line up, the more left you swing, and the bigger the fade gets.
Before long, you take a look and you see yourself on camera, and you’re lined up 60 or 70 yards to the left and that ball’s really starting to curve back over there just to try to keep the ball in play.
That really just compounds itself. The more you practice, the worse it gets, the bigger the slice gets, the more frustrating it gets.
When we’re hitting a draw, what we’d like to have happen, is we actually want to go the other way.
If you look at most players that are playing a bit of a draw, we ideally want to line up a little bit to the right.
So now if my feet are lined up a little to the right, my shoulders, my hips, I’m swinging a little bit to the right, rolling the face on over, that’s going to get that ball to start a little right of the target, and then draw back in there.
What I want you to do for today’s drill, is we’re going to exaggerate basically the exact opposite of what tends to happen when people hit a fade.
Now we’re going to line up well to the right. We can see that my feet, my shoulders, and my hips, everything is going way over there to the right. I probably would be 40 yards right of the target.
Now I’m going to work on releasing that club, turning that face on over, to get that ball to draw back over the other way.
So as I set up here, if I’m going to go this far to the right, I’m going to swing this far inside out, I’m going to need to play the ball just slightly back in my stance to be able to get to the ball.
I’m going to have my feet, my knees, and my hips, my shoulders, everything’s going to be lined up to the right. I will let you cheat a little bit and close the face slightly at address.
You’re actually going to regrip to close that face just a little bit, that’s going to help you with that draw. I’m really going to feel like I’m rolling my hands over.
I might even exaggerate a little bit more and get almost towards those trees over there. I’m going to hit about 20 to 30 shots, really getting that ball to hook nicely.
There we go, so that was a big, basically a snap hook with a 6 iron, probably curved 30 yards to the left, but that’s the exact opposite of what we’re doing with the slice.
As you get more and more comfortable and you start to see that ball curve right to left, now we’re going to straighten this back out and we’re going to go back again to where we’re pointing to the target in the distance.
I know that probably isn’t lined up perfectly, but I’m going to straighten that back out and hopefully, if we’re doing really well, we can knock this stick right out of the ground.
Let’s see if we can do that. I’ll give it one shot, hopefully it doesn’t come back and hit me. So I’m lined up, everything’s nice and square. We’ll give it a whirl, see if we can hit the stick.
Oh, I missed it. I think it went to the left. But work on that drill, put it a little bit farther in front so it doesn’t come back and hit you or anything.
Start out to the right, get the ball to hook back, then you can straighten it out. Try to knock this stick out of the ground, it will be a fun drill for you guys to work on.
Good luck, I’ll see you guys soon. Work hard, and get that draw going.
