In this Top Speed Golf system video, you’ll discover how pro golfers use lag in their swings.
You’ll see analyses of past pros such as Ben Hogan all the way to current pros such as Adam Scott and Tiger.
First, you’ll see how much lag angle they appear to get in their swings.
In the Top Speed Golf System, I recommend that your lag angle appears to be less than 65 degrees.
As you’ll see in the video, pros are way lower than that.
For example, Hogan’s lag angle was around 19 degrees.
That angle is extreme and was achieved with the help of very flexible wrists.
Remember, shoot for under 65 degrees and you’ll be coming in with a good amount of lag.
After a discussion about lag, you’ll see a rapid fire look at additional pro swings.
You’ll see a lag compilation of the following pros…
- Ben Hogan
- Adam Scott
- Jason Day
- Sergio Garcia
- Phil Mickleson
- Arnold Palmer
- Rory McIlroy
- Tiger Woods
- Bubba Watson
- Greg Norman
- Fred Couples
- Jordan Spieth
- Jack Nicklaus
- Ernie Els

Hey guys, great to have you here today. We’re going to take a look at lag with pro golfers. So we’re going to look at a lot of different pro’s swings. We’ve got Ben Hogan, the master of lag here himself. We’re going to see how much lag they get in their downswing.
When we’re looking through these swings, what I want you to notice is when the left arm is about parallel with the ground in the downswing, we’re going to measure to see just about how much lag these players have.
Now what we recommend in the Top Speed Golf System, in the lag section, is anything less than 65. We see Ben Hogan right around 20°, 19°, that is a super sharp angle.
He’s got very flexible wrists, obviously, and he’s also letting this club drop back behind his body like we talk about in The Move to shallow out that swing plane. The shallower your swing, which he had a very shallow downswing, the bigger the appearance of lag in the swing.
He’s going to have a very sharp angle there, the appearance of a sharp angle, from face on because of that shallowing motion paired up with his very flexible wrist. We’re not all going to get this kind of a motion, that’s completely fine.
You’ll see there’s other pros that are much less than this, but if we can get around that 65° mark, we’re going to let the club do a lot of the work for us, get that big angle, and that club’s going to whip through impact to allow us to get that speed.
Again, what we’re looking for in these videos is not necessarily to make it look like Ben Hogan, or Sergio Garcia, or going to have a ton, we’re going to see all these pros are getting a good amount of lag in the downswing, and then letting that do the work for them.
Let’s check it out, best of luck on your lag. If you’re struggling with your lag at all, be sure to go to the Top Speed Golf System, click on Instruction when you’re on the home page of the Top Speed Golf website, then go to Top Speed Golf System, then The Lag, and then work from level 1, level 2, level 3.
As you get through those drills, that’s going to help you to really ingrain lag so that you can get that easy speed for the rest of your life. Once you get it ingrained, you’ll never go back.
It’s a little bit of work, but we can get out there and start swinging like these pros and having an effortless swing. So best of luck, let’s check out the pros, and I’ll see you guys later.
