In this new video, “How to Hit a Draw Cheat (Fix Your Slice in 5 Minutes)”…
You’ll get a quick lesson on how to hit those powerful draws that you covet.
So what’s this “cheat” about?
Now we’ve all been told that cheating isn’t right…
But for the purpose of this drill, a quick cheat will help you learn the proper movements.
To start, you need to get your club path going to the right…
Then get your club face to close correctly for a nice draw.
You might even start hooking the ball a bit…
And that’s fine!
Don’t worry about overdoing it for now…
The point of this drill is to break your bad habits and get your club on the right path…
Then later you can relax your path a bit to optimize your shots.
Last, as a nice little bonus, you’ll start hitting the ball with more shaft lean which will help you compress your shots.
Watch this video now to “cheat” your way to a nice draw!

Hi guys, we’ve got a really fun drill for you, a little cheat drill here to make sure that you’re getting that nice draw as you’re swinging through there.
So we’re going to work on what we worked on in the last video, we’re going to build on that, trying to get the path going out to the right, and then getting that club face to close on down, get that nice draw, even a little bit of a hook.
What I’ve done, is I’ve set up my ball. I have a stick in front, lined up with my target. If I hit this ball dead straight toward my target, it’s going to smash right into this stick here.
What we’re going to do, is we’re going to actually cheat with our club face here, it’s going to force us to come inside out, force us to release that face.
Go ahead and set up with your normal grip, and you can see that my club face is straight up and down as I’m holding this club in front of my body.
Now what I’m going to do is I want to go ahead and loosen up my grip, and I’m going to twist this club face in my hand about 30° or 40° closed.
So now I have my normal grip, I haven’t changed how my hands are on the club, but I’ve hooded down that club face about 30° or 40°.
I don’t want you to take your normal grip and then roll your hands to close the face, we’re actually going to change the club in our hands as we’re doing this. As I set up, that club is going to be really hooded down, really, really closed.
Now I’m going to set up here, lining up straight toward the stick with the club face really, really hooded down. Here, if I was to swing straight ahead, this ball is going to go way to the left, 50-60 yards to the left.
If I start to come over the top at all with this closed face, now it’s going to go even farther to the left, because I’m swinging left and my face is even more.
What this is going to force you to do, is to start to swing more out to the right, more to the inside, to get this ball to start to the right of that stick.
That’s going to be my goal, we’re going to hit about 50 or 60 shots here, probably 100 total swings to where we try to get this ball to stat to the right of the stick.
Now one thing to keep in mind, we’re going to need to put this ball a little bit back in our stance. If this is my normal set up, ball off the logo of my shirt, I’m going to have to put it a little bit back in my stance so that I can reach this ball and it feels a little bit more comfortable.
So I’m going to go ahead and set up like that. Another thing to keep in mind is that I want to have a little bit of forward shaft as I’m doing this. I don’t want to be flipping the club, this is also going to help me to get a little bit more forward shaft lean.
I’m just going to start out lining up straight, I want to make sure my feet are lined up straight ahead. I don’t want to cheat and start lining up my feet over here like this, that’s going to defeat the purpose of the drill.
I’m going to put my feet straight ahead toward the target, got my stick in front, ball’s a little bit back, club face really closed own. Now I’m going to hit some nice, easy shots starting those out to the right.
You’ll also notice how my right elbow, my shoulders, are now pointing well out to the right, and my club’s going to be swinging that direction. Let’s go ahead and try a few out here.
There we go, that ball hooked 20-30 yards, just a nice little easy punch shot. I’m only hitting these, this is a 6 iron that I have, and I’m only going to hit these about 60-70 yards, somewhere in that range.
There we go, so that ball’s really turning over. If you want to exaggerate this, go ahead and get the ball to really snap hook. I mean, if we can get that ball to hook 40-50 yards that’s fine.
As you get more comfortable with this, do a couple practice swings, really feel like the face gets the outside of the ball, and my path is way to the right. Then you can start to swing a little bit harder.
There we go, and that ball really started moving there. I’m really exaggerating way too far from the inside, really rolling the face.
So if you start to over-hook those, the ball’s really turning over right to left, then we can straighten that out a bit.
All we’re going to do – let me go ahead and grab another ball – all we’re going to do to straighten this out is we would remove the stick so we don’t hit it.
Obviously if we hit a straight shot we’re going to knock the stick over. I’m still going to set up straight, and now instead of swinging so far to the right, I’m going to gradually straighten that out until my path is going straight instead of rolling the face on over.
I’m going to go ahead and take more of my normal grip, face straight up and down, and I’m going to feel like my face is working more toward the target.
I’m just going to watch that ball flight, and if it starts to fade, I’m going to go back and do the same drill we worked on. If it starts to hook, then I’m going to start to straighten it out a little bit. As we’re done, we should get a nice, perfectly straight ball flight.
There we go, right down the middle. Good luck to you guys, work on this drill. Do at least 50 reps hitting a ball, about 100 total swings doing that. It’s going to l you to break that habit once and for all.
