A consistent swing starts from the setup. If we can get started on the right foot, everything that happens later will become that much easier.
In this video I will give you a simple drill to start with a perfect tilt for the Stable & Fluid Spine.

Hey guys, welcome back.
I’ve got a really quick video for you guys today that’s going to help you to get balanced in your address and also have that nice spine tilt that we’re looking for, and we’re looking to keep throughout the entire swing.
So really quick video for you. I’ll first go ahead and show you how to do this the right way, then I’ll show you a couple common mistakes after this.
If I’m standing up straight up and down, you’ll see both my belt buckle…actually first I’m going to go ahead and set up a stick going between the center of my stance, between both my ankles.
You’ll notice that if I’m standing straight up and down this would go through my belt buckle and it will also go through the center of my nose, that’s me standing straight up and down.
As I get into my posture I want to have a little bit of spine tilt, and to stay balanced while I’m doing this, I’m going to have my hips bumped forward and my upper body bumped back, and now I’m balanced, my weight is pretty even between my feet, maybe just a little bit more on my right side.
But I have a nice angle here. You’ll see as I do this, that my belt buckle is now in front of the center line and my nose is now behind the center line.
So if I set up properly, that’s what that’s going to look like with my belt buckle slightly in front, and my nose slightly behind and that’s going to allow me to stay centered in my weight and also to have that nice spine tilt angle like we’re looking for.
Now your ball, let me go ahead and grab a golf ball here, as I do this it’s going to be slightly in front.
So if I set up my golf ball is going to be just a little bit in front of that, and that’s because as we’re doing the swing, my club is going to ground out just under the inside of my left foot, that’s going to be the bottom arc, and my ball should always be a little front of center as we’re going into the swing.
You can see here how my belt buckle is to the front, and my nose is to the back.
Now a common thing when I see people trying to get a spine tilt is to get all their weight on their right side, so that the spine is tilting back to the right.
A lot of times they’ll try to do something like this. Well now you can see my belt buckle and my nose are all the way on the right, I’ve got a ton of weight on my right side, I’m way back here, and it’s going to be a big shift to get back to the left.
Or a lot of times I see people coming over the top or struggle with a slice, a lot of times they’ll be set up something more like this, where now the nose is over on the left side, and so is the belt buckle on the left side, and that’s going to promote a more right to left across the ball swing, and also coming down really, really steep.
So this very simple drill keeping balance in both my feet, belt buckle in front, nose behind, it’s going to allow me to be in a great set up position, very athletic just like the top pros, and then that’s going to make it so much easier as I go to the top, and I go back down to contact, to be able to hit those good points.
So as you go to the top of the swing, because your hips are rotating, just to add to this a little bit, it’s OK for the belt buckle to go a little to the right of that stick.
Your nose is going to go a little farther to the right.
As I go to contact, my hips and my belt buckle are definitely going to be in front of that stick quite a bit, and my nose is still going to be slightly behind it as everything’s moving to the left.
Then as I finish, everything is going to be to the left.
I wouldn’t worry about all that for this drill, I just want you to set up properly.
Put a stick between your feet, get a video camera out, get in your address position, nice and balanced between your feet, belt buckle to the left, nose the right, and you’re going to be in a nice athletic posture and ready to hit some great golf shots.
Do about 100 repetitions on that, check it on camera, and that will make everything else happen in the swing a lot easier and cure a lot of the problems without having to get into the details of all of them.
Get the set up right, and it’s going to fix 8 or 10 things later on in the swing.
So good luck to you guys, I’ll see you all soon.
