How would you like to know the real Tiger Woods Putting routine?
That would be pretty cool, right?
In this video I’ll break down his process for you step by step.
This routine will do several things for your stroke.
First, it’ll help you to read the greens.
A common theme in this putting series is to find the straight putt.
This is exactly what tiger does first and what you’ll learn to do.
Next, we’ll learn how to roll the ball smoothly by using the right hand only.
The key here is to keep the wrist soft.
Lastly, we’ll work on the path of the putts, and get in a serious groove rolling the ball.

Hi guys, I’ve got a great drill for you from Tiger Woods. This is his pre-shot routine, this is how he starts out before tournaments getting warmed up.
Again, it’s finding that straight put just as we talked about in the level two, we’re going to do the same thing, that’s what he does, and I’m going to work on a gate drill and using that right hand.
So you’re going to need six golf balls. You’ll go ahead and start around about five feet away from the hole.
What he’s going to do here, is he’s going to drop some balls, and he’s going to roll a few and find a dead straight put.
I can see that one may have turned a little bit to the right. As I go here, that’s looking pretty straight.
You don’t have to make any of these, I come over there, that may be going slightly to the left. So I’m just rolling a few and seeing where they break.
So I know right now, I think this is about my dead straight putt. If I roll a few with my right hand, all I’m going to do now is try to be really soft with the right hand, get a nice even tempo, and then with every stroke I want to hold my finish every single time.
So even though I’m just going right hand only, I’m going to hold my finish and I’m going to keep that putter face nice and stable as I’m going through.
Now once he’s done and he’s found that straight putt, what he’ll usually do is put a tee just to kind of mark that general area on the left side.
Now let’s go ahead and pick these balls up, he’ll use six balls almost every time, and he’s going to roll these until he starts getting a feel with the right hand, then he’s going to add the left hand, and then we’re going to try to make quite a few in a row.
So now we’re just doing right hand only here again. Again, you want to feel nice and soft in this right hand. You want to feel like there’s very low pressure in the right hand.
Kind of a tough drill, you want to make sure you hold that finish just as I’m doing here. You’ll notice at the end my face is really stable, not moving around a lot as I come on through.
So with this right wrist, you want to feel a little bit of a flow or a hinge to it. So as this putter head goes back, there’s some momentum moving back, and I want to feel that slightly bend my wrist a few degrees.
It’s not going to be very much, and then I’m going to let it flow on through and it’s going to release a little bit as I’m coming on through. So very, very small amount as I’m doing this.
So once I’ve got this down, and I get the straight put, I feel pretty good with my right hand, I’m draining some putts there. Now I’m going to go ahead and set my putter down, and I’m going to create a gate here to swing towards this hole.
So there I’m giving a little bit of room between the heel and the toe of my putter, and now I’m going to have to put a pretty straight putt to be able to go through here.
So he’ll lay down some balls again, and start out with just the right hand. Make a few there, and then finally we’re going to go and use both hands and work on putting through this gate nice and soft with the hands, holding that finish every time.
That’s going to allow you to make more putts. He made, in this particular warm-up routine, he made 36 in a row as he’s putting and doing this.
I’m not going to show the full clip, but 36 in a row from five feet, pretty dag-gone good.
I’d also recommend you go a little bit farther away. If we get to that 8 to 12-foot range, we can start to pick up a lot of strokes on our opponents, and that’s where you’re going to see a lot of your birdies that you can either make or miss as you’re going to change your round a lot.
So work on this Tiger Woods putting drill, get a soft right hand, stable face, wrist nice and loose, hold that finish, and then let the ball roll out of sight.
You’re going to make a lot more putts. Put through that gate, and you’re going to be really rolling it well, just like one of the best players, probably the best player of all time.
So good luck to you guys, work on the drill, see if you can match his 36 in a row, I’ll see you guys soon.
