In this video, you get a golf lesson to really improve.
Now, this video is quite different from my regular videos.
I’ll show you some of the major mistakes I made while building a solid swing.
The goal is to help you skip past a lot of the mistakes that I made so you can speed up your improvement.
A common assumption is that good golfers naturally “get it.”
Perhaps some do, but not me.
I struggled when I was younger and really had to force it to become better.
Although I eventually became good enough to play college golf, I wasn’t a good ball striker until I started diving into swing research and teaching other players.
In the video, you’ll learn about the 3 big mistakes I made (so you don’t repeat them!)…
Mistake #1: Focusing on Having the Perfect Looking Swing
Spending time on the small details means you’ll spend less time on the big swing moves that really matters.
So don’t spend tons of time developing the best takeaway in the world.
It’s not nearly as important as swinging with a Stable & Fluid Spin, for example.
Mistake #2: Always Trying to Find My Swing
Any time I shot really well, I tried to just recreate that exact same swing.
That seems reasonable, but it’s not the best way to approach your game.
We all have swing flaws and when we happen to time the swing well, we’ll have a good day.
The problem is that as soon as your timing is off a bit, the swing flaws will tank your round.
So, the key should be to focus on your ball flight.
If you’re hitting it really high, do some drills to hit it low.
If you’re fading the ball, work on drills to draw the ball.
Stop chasing your swing, focus on your fundamentals, and build your shot arsenal.
This will pay off big time.
Mistake #3: “Block Practice”
When I was younger, I heard that pros hit nice and high draws.
So all I worked on was hitting high draws.
The problem is that if I ran into a problem with my high draw shot, I didn’t know what to do.
Or if I needed to hit a fade, then I didn’t have the confidence to hit that shot.
So don’t just go to the range and practice the same shot over and over.
Vary your practice and develop your clubface feel for different shots.
Summary…
Don’t make the same mistakes I did…
