In this video, you’ll learn how to start your swing like Rickie Fowler and Jason Day.
You’ll get a great pre shot drill that you can use on the range or even during your round on the course.
This drill is also sort of a pre shot routine in that it not only will help you start your swing correctly, but it’ll also help you prepare for the shot mentally.
Next time you watch the pros, you’ll likely see a lot of them performing a similar routine.
There are 3 checkpoints (+ a bonus checkpoint) to this drill…
#1 Triangle Shape
During the takeaway, the drill focuses on keeping a consistent triangle shape between your shoulders and club.
This will help you create a nice and wide takeaway while minimizing your hand movements.
#2 Put the Shaft Into Your Gut
You probably won’t use this step on the course, but you can use it on the range.
Choke way down with the butt end of the club touching your gut.
This helps to reinforce the stable triangle angle as you make your takeaway.
#3 Alignment Stick
Lay an alignment stick from the back of your left heel to across the top of your right foot.
As you take the club back, your shoulder, hands, and club should all line up well with the angle created with the stick.
Bonus Checkpoint #4 Let it Rip!
After practicing your short pre shot takeaways, take a full swing and let it rip.
This pre shot routine may seem a little awkward, but putting yourself in a good routine can help you get your swing started off correctly…
And it’ll help you mentally prepare for the shot.
